Sherman Oaks, CA—With a generous matching gift of $50,000 from the Wolf Family Foundation and a grant of $50,000 from the Weingart Foundation, the Community Foundation of the Valleys (CFV) is soliciting donations from individuals, businesses and other foundations to raise another $50,000 or more for a combined total in excess of $150,000. These funds will be distributed by the Foundation to established pre-screened nonprofit organizations in the San Fernando and Santa Clarita Valleys that are providing critical services to vulnerable individuals and families who have been negatively impacted by the COVID-19-related economic downturn.
“We are deeply concerned about the thousands of our low income neighbors who have been laid off from their jobs, and are now relying on local food banks and other nonprofits to meet their basic needs,” said Bill Wolf, CPA and president of the Wolf Family Foundation. “Also, with a staggering homeless population in our region, these individuals have been negatively impacted by recent rain storms and are especially vulnerable to illnesses such as COVID 19.”
“The Community Foundation of the Valleys is aware that many Valley-based charities are struggling with a huge increase in demand for services, while at the same time, facing a sudden decline and potential future drop off in financial donations to support their much-needed programs. This represents a serious dilemma as they seek to serve Valley residents for the long-term,” noted Tamara Gurney, President of the Community Foundation of the Valleys Board of Directors, and also Founder and CEO of Mission Valley Bank.
The Foundation will be running its COVID19 Response Fund campaign from now through April 15, 2020.
